Product Safety & Care Guide

Product Safety & Care Guide

How to unpack, use and look after the comfort products we sell.

Unpacking compressed items

Foam-filled products are vacuum-compressed for shipping. Open the packaging within seven days of delivery. Leaving an item compressed for a long period can slow its recovery and may prevent it from returning to its full shape.

Cut the outer packaging carefully and avoid cutting into the product itself. Scissors are safer than a blade for this.

Foam expansion

Shredded and memory foam products need time to expand after unpacking:

  • Expansion usually begins within a few hours.
  • Most of the shape returns within 24 hours.
  • Allow up to 72 hours for the item to reach its full loft.

Gently shaking or patting the product helps it recover faster. A faint odor from new foam is normal and fades with airing in a ventilated room over a few days.

Adjusting the fill

Products with an adjustable inner liner can be firmed up or softened by adding or removing foam. Do this over a large surface or inside a bag, as shredded foam scatters easily. Keep any removed fill in a sealed bag in case you want it back.

Cleaning and care

  • Covers. Where a cover is removable, unzip and wash it according to the care label on the item. Wash cold, tumble dry low or air dry.
  • Foam inserts. Do not machine wash or tumble dry foam inserts. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent and allow to dry fully before putting the cover back on.
  • Protectors. Zippered protectors are machine washable. Follow the care label.
  • Do not dry clean, bleach or iron foam products.
  • Make sure anything washed is completely dry before use, as trapped moisture can cause odor or mildew.

Safe use

  • These are comfort and support products for home use. They are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If you have a medical concern, speak to a qualified professional.
  • Keep packaging, including plastic wrap and bags, away from infants and children.
  • Do not use pillows or cushions in an infant’s sleeping area. Soft bedding is not safe for infant sleep.
  • Keep foam products away from open flame, heaters and other direct heat sources.
  • Do not stand on a pillow or use it as a step, and do not use a backrest in place of a chair or office seating.
  • Stop using any item that is torn, has exposed fill, or has a damaged zip.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Avoid storing foam products compressed under heavy weight for long periods, as this can permanently affect their shape.
